CNS damage model:

The central nervous system (CNS) is the part of the nervous system consisting of the brain and spinal cord. There are various CNS diseases, such as Epilepsy, Huntington's, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson's, Multiple sclerosis and so on. Trauma, infections, degeneration, structural defects, tumors, autoimmune disorders and stroke are the major causes of CNS disease. Traditional animal CNS disease models are complex, laborious and costly. The search for novel neuron - protection drugs requires rapid and effective screening models for the biological evaluation.

Hunter has developed a novel CNS damage model for CNS protective agent screening using larvae zebrafish. In this model, there are numerous apoptotic neurons in zebrafish spinal cord and brain, which could be detected via live AO staining without dissecting or sacrificing the animal.
